I think they lose a lot of foreign viewers, because they dont clearly explain concepts in Chinese culture that just don't translate well. (Obsessiveness? Vessel? Viccissitude?) Japanese anime are a bit slower and more patient and hand hold viewers through explanations which is probably why they don't dump the series, even through slow, lame, or confusing parts.
